PHITSANULOK -- A former border patrol policeman was seriously injured after suffering a gunshot wound to the head from a 9mm pistol in what appeared to be a suicide attempt, police said. Pol Col Siripong Nguanthongchan, a duty officer at Nakhon Thai police station, said the incident occurred on Sunday morning at a house behind the Government Savings Bank, Nakhon Thai district branch. Police and a rescue unit from a charity foundation found Pol Sr Sgnt Maj Boonrob Sangiamprong, 65, lying unconscious in a pool of blood. A 9mm pistol was found near him. A police investigation revealed that since his retirement, Pol Sr Sgt Boonrob had lived alone in the house after separating from his wife.
